Rectangular sandstone stela of Abraham. A foliate pediment and akroteria top above tabulae ansata (handled tablet) bearing a two line Coptic inscription, ‘Abraam the perfect monk, amen.’ Below is a monogram comprised of the Greek letters, tau-rho. An alpha and omega are inscribed into the upper left and upper left right quadrants of the space formed by the cross, cruces ansatae (handled crosses), which derive from the ancient Egyptian ankh hieroglyph meaning ‘life,’ occupy the lower two quadrants.
Description in Hall:
Ornament on apex of gable, vine leaves in gabel or pediment, acanthus-akroteria. Below, a rectangular panel sunk between a border with a notched ornament. In upper part of panel a label written in Coptic with wings. Below this a large cross with loop, in the two upper spaces A and Ѡ, in the two lower large 'ankhs'.
