Shoulder sherd (mended from five fragments) of Clazomenian black-figured pottery amphora; exterior: in panel, black-figure decoration consisting of winged horse, possibly Pegasus, to left (bridled head with added white accents, neck, and wing with added red and white alternating wing feathers remaining); part of handle zone on the right.

Object owned and held by the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. This record is included in the British Museum database as part of the Museum’s Naukratis Project, a research collaboration that aims to virtually re-unite finds from the ancient port city of Naukratis, now distributed over 80 museums worldwide.

Winged horses on Clazomenian vases from the Knipovitch Class are usually depicted facing right. Those on vases from the Mykonos KE.990 Group are all depicted facing left.
The image published in Hogarth's field report shows a smaller section of the amphora.
