Rim and neck sherd of Attic black-figured pottery volute-krater; interior glazed black; band in added red below rim; top of rim reserved; exterior: on outside face of rim, key meander to left; on neck, part of lotus and palmette frieze (added red on palmette centre).

Object owned and held by Akademisches Kunstmuseum. This record is included in the British Museum database as part of the Museum’s Naukratis Project, a research collaboration that aims to virtually re-unite finds from the ancient port city of Naukratis, now distributed over 80 museums worldwide.

Piekarski compares this sherd to the neck-amphora Cambridge, Fitzwilliam Museum GR 30. 1864 (ABV 340.1; CVA III H 19f, pl. 12, 2) but the execution of the lotus and palmette frieze is quite different.
