Body sherd of Attic black-figured pottery closed vessel, probably a neck-amphora; exterior black-figure decoration consisting of scene depicting ransom of Hector; lower part of male body to right, on its back; at left, foot of couch, more central, leg of table; below, dilute band above by two added red bands at top of glazed lower body.

Object owned and held by the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. This record is included in the British Museum database as part of the Museum’s Naukratis Project, a research collaboration that aims to virtually re-unite finds from the ancient port city of Naukratis, now distributed over 80 museums worldwide.

The sherd preserves one of the earliest Attic representations of the subject and joins Oxford AN1896-1908-G.131.30b.
