Eight-pointed star tile. Fritware (stonepaste) with moulded design, painted in blue, turquoise and lustre over an opaque white glaze. The central field is decorated in reserve against a lustred background with a simurgh, or phoenix, in flight surrounded by peony branches. Two small turquoise spots appear near the phoenix's head. A border inscription in large cursive script occupies the perimeter of the tile, the letters outlined in lustre on a white ground; the border background is painted in cobalt blue with the letters left in white. Reverse undecorated.
