- Curator's comments
- Open-air markets such as this are probably the oldest form of bazaar in the Middle East but leave little archaeological trace, and certainly nothing that could distinguish it from the accidental detritus of everyday occupation. In Turkey today, temporary markets continue to be popular and are often located just outside small towns or beside busy roads. They sell everything from clothes to foodstuffs and pottery.
