Village woman’s coat (dura’a). The front and back panels are made of red coloured cotton, the sleeves and lining are made of indigo dyed cotton, and the side panels and front flaps are made of green coloured silk. The lining of the sleeves and facing of the front opening is made of red and white Syrian silk ikat (lisan il asfur). The outside fabrics and lining are stitched together with skipping back stitch embroidery (qutbet il namel) in red, green and blue floss silk. The green silk panels are embroidered with cross stitch, interlaced cross-stitch and zigzag stitch in red coloured floss silk.

The costumes in this collection were used for exhibitions and demonstrations of life in Biblical times, on the (mistaken) assumption that 19th century costumes were identical to those of that era.
