- Curator's comments
-
The dress has two labels sewn in at the nape: “C.M.J. Palestine Exhibition” on top and “Galilee Bride b2” under. This might have been used to designate the dress as costume and is not necessarily an accurate reference to production place or use.
-
Worn beneath coat-dresses of the type worn in Ramallah and Beit Dajan, for example.
The costumes in this collection were used for exhibitions and demonstrations of life in Biblical times, on the (mistaken) assumption that 19th century costumes were identical to those of that era.
