- Curator's comments
- Interesting to note that the metallic embroidery thread actually goes through the base fabric and another facing fabric on the inside of the cloak which suggests that the thread was strong and sturdy and that embroiderer must have been a professional and skilled practitioner who could embroider material of this thickness without damaging the thread. The thread has clearly lost its lustre and shine with time, but this would have been an impressive garment when first made and worn.
