- Object: The Grand Book of Heech
Artist's handmade book. Made from manually processed organic hemp plant, pasted onto molds. Bound by an organic goatskin cover. The book consists of fifteen pages, with the raised image of the heech gradually dissolving from a full shape into nothing as the pages are turned.
- Curator's comments
- Parviz Tanavoli, one of Iran’s leading artists has been creating works in a number of different media based on the Persian word heech, meaning ‘nothing’ for several decades. His bronze Heech in a Cage is currently displayed close to the Welcome gallery. The shape of this heech is in high relief, and as the pages of the book are turned, the sculptural form of the heech becomes gradually smaller.
