- Curator's comments
- Tanavoli bought an old reprinted book titled 'Aja'yeb al-Makhluqat va Ghara'eb al Mojudat' (The Wonders of Creation and Strange Beings) from the Jom'e Bazaar (Friday Bazaar) of Tehran and ‘was impressed by the beauty of the inscriptions written in fine calligraphy…I decided to have my share of these beautiful pages for the memories.’ The content of the book was first printed during the late Qajar period (1779-1925) and this specific one is a later reprint. The drawings on top of the text and illustrations are of Tanavoli's own invention and are usually not relevant to the content of the page, but allude to his own interests and artistic fascinations.
