- Curator's comments
- A similar bracelet is illustrated in Miranda Morris and Pauline Shelton, 'Oman Adorned: A Portrait in Silver' (Muscat, 1997), p.276 F. According to Morris, this style of bracelet was brought to Dhofar as gifts from the pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca and its design is thought to orginate from India. For similar examples see: Neil Richardson and Marcia Dorr, 'The Craft Heritage of Oman' (Dubai, 2003); Ruth Hawley, 'Silver: The Traditional Art of Oman' (London, 2000); and Jehan S. Rajab, 'Silver Jewellery of Oman' (Kuwait, 1997).
