Painting (watercolour). Folio 7 from an album showing Turkish costume. Falakacı kadın, the woman who punished wrongdoers in the Harem by beating them on the soles of their feet. Carrying a thick red staff and the cane (fala) with the loop to hold the culprits' feet. Cerise entari with gold edging, tight bodice and sleeves and a wide flowered sash (kuşak). Large round green head-dress.
