Engelbert Kaempfher, a german doctor, travelled to Iran in the 1680s. While there, he commissioned an Isfahan artist, Jani Farangi Saz, to paint scenes of daily life, animals, and People in local dress on the sheets of an album. Cockfights and other animal combats were amusements in the Maydan, the main square of Isfahan.
