Portrait of Shah Jahan at the time of his accession. Single-page painting mounted on detached album folio. A side features an half-length portrait of Shah Jahan on an oval green ground. The shah holds a seal engraved with his titles, regnal year 1 (1628), and an inscription. Golden border followed by dark blue border with vegetal motifs in goldleaf, followed by wider border featuring different flowering plants on light ground. Image is off-center with respect to larger border. Includes inscriptions in Persian script along golden border as well as two smaller inscriptions along the inner edge of green oval. B side features a falcon on a perch. Golden border followed by dark blue border with vegetal motifs in goldleaf, followed by wider dark blue border featuring flowering plants in goldeaf. Includes inscriptions in Persian script along golden border.
Ink, opaque watercolour and gold on paper.
