Description
Bowl. Octagonal, panels decorated with investiture scenes and confronted sphinxes. Glaze has worn away in certain areas, most especially the base. Fritware (stonepaste); moulded with turquoise glaze.

Curator's comments
Octagonal fritware bowl with a moulded decoration under a turquoise glaze West Iran, 12th-13th century The panels contain, alternately, confronted sphinzes and horsemen holding a wreath. The latter is a Sasanian motif seen on the rock reliefs of western Iran.
