cylinder seal
Object Type
cylinder seal
Museum number
125801
Description
Dark grey (siliceous) limestone cylinder seal; three figures stand their feet turned towards the left; they are bearded, with shoulder-length hair and wear robes with deep fringes, broad belts and vertical openings at the neck. One figure holds a bow in his left hand and a staff (?) in his right. The other two figures look in his direction and raise one hand towards him, while resting the other on the staff (the staff on the right has the same two horizontal lines as the staff of the central figure). The right-hand figure also has two spears (?) across his back. There are two wedges in the field, set vertically on either side of the right-hand figure; a possible third wedge, below his raised hand, may be an object he is holding. There are traces of earlier cutting, perhaps an erased inscription, between the left-and-right-hand figures. Line borders at top and bottom. The lower end is cut crooked.
