Isfahan, late 16th century
Largely following the example of Riza, artists in the late 16th century chose increasingly to portray shaykhs or other elders in the wilderness. Many of these portraits are small drawings with colour washes, made for inclusion in albums, or muraqqa's. (previous label text)
