- Curator's comments
- After a red chalk drawing by Parmigianino from Thomas Lawrence's collection now in a New York private collection, see David Ekserdjian, 'Two Drawings by Parmigianino for Prints', "Master Drawings", 46, Autumn 2008, pp. 367-73. Another (lost) drawing must have served as the basis for the woodcut by Ugo da Carpi dating from Parmigianino's time in Bologna (1527-30): BM impressions 1859,0709.2376 and W,4.87. During this time Parmigianino also began to make etchings and the unique impression of an arm in the BM (1864,0714.72) is based on that of Diogenes.
