- This is a copy, in reverse, of an engraving by Johannes Sadeler after Parmigianino (Holl. 299). The drawing is in the collection of Teylers Stichting, Haarlem; see A.E. Popham, 'Catalogue of the Drawings of Parmigianino' (New Haven and London 1971), I, p. 81 no. 148.
The impression in New York is annotated in ink, as here, '1684'.

This impression is the print is listed in Walter Shropshire's priced 'Catalogue of a Collection of Prints', London 1770, cat. 339, as can be seen from the annotation by Blackburne on the verso, giving the initials 'W.S.' for Shropshire, and the date 1770 (information supplied by Nicholas Stogdon via email, April 2014).
