- Curator's comments
- Marco Riccòmini notes that this is not after Pietro da Cortona (email January, 2015) but after a painting by Daniel Seiter now in the Art Gallery of Toronto (see M. Kunze, 'Daniel Seiter 1647-1705. Die Gemälde' München-Berlin 2000, p. 106, n. G 61, plate 1). Unknown to Kunze is the small oil on paper sketch by Seiter for the same painting formerly on the Roman art market (see Fabio Massimo Megna: Firenze 2005. Catalogo, edited by T. Megna, Florence, XXIV Biennale dell’Antiquariato, Rome 2005, n. 9, pp. 36-38).
