Curator's comments
Calabi + de Vesme give the date as 1795 for the second state: this is identical in all respects except that the date here is 1797. The plate was acquired on 23 June 1797 by A Molteno at Bartolozzi's sale (lot 106), who re-issued it in September 1797 and January 1798 (C+V states iii and iv).
