- Drawing on verso is a copy from 'Apollo Citharoedus', on the façade of the Villa Poggio Imperiale, Florence.

Unattributed in the Fawkener MS Inventory of 1845, but in 1943 placed by Popham under the name of Raffaello da Montelupo. In our opinion the old inscription is nearer the truth: though the drawing on the recto cannot be by Polidoro himself, it comes very close to BM 'Raphael', no. 236, catalogued under Polidoro's name as the work of an unidentified associate. The handling of the red chalk in the verso drawing, though very much less accomplished, bears some resemblance to that of the copy in Berlin by Polidoro himself of a detail of a relief of a battle-scene now in the Museo delle Terme (KdZ 20723; Marabottini, pl. cxxi, 1; L. Ravelli, 'Polidoro da Caravaggio', Bergamo, 1978, no. 31; Gere, 'Manierismo', fig. 9).
The statue copied on the verso belongs to a type of which more than one variant is known. The closest appears to be one in Naples (Reinach, 'Statuaire', i, p. 243, no. 921B) said to have come from the Farnese Collection. It should be noted, however, that in the drawing the entire left arm and shoulder appear to be missing, together with the upper part of the lyre (the draughtsman seems to have experienced some difficulty with the perspective of the sound-box of the instrument); but according to A. Ruesch ('Guida illustrata del Museo Nazionale di Napoli', Naples, 1908, no. 675), in the statue the left hand only and part of the lyre are restorations.
The same figure was engraved by Marcantonio (B.xiv, p. 250, 332 and 333), but the drawing cannot be a copy of the engraving.
