Curator's comments
No corresponding painting by Elsheimer is included in Keith Andrews' 1977 monograph. Rubens made a drawing of the saint presumably after the same painting, as it is in reverse sense to the print, now in the BM: 1910,0212.14. The drawing has an old attribution to Barocci but the figure does not correspond to any known painting by him either.
