- Attribution to Leendert van der Cooghen by MRK (January 2019): a very similar figure appears in an earlier, red chalk drawing in the Rijksmuseum dated 1654 (RP-T-1897-A-3380), catalogued in Baukje Coenen's article on the artist's drawings in Master Drawings, xliii, 2005, no.A32, repr. fig.30. Van der Cooghen repeated or re-used figures occasionally; and the way the date is written is also typical for him.
