- This is probably a preparatory drawing for a series of engravings showing the childhood of Christ; for another drawing by the same (unidentified) hand see also SL,5226.128.
The design is loosely based on Albrecht Altdorfer's woodcut from the series 'Fall and Redemption of Man', for impressions see 1845,0809.1176 and 1895,0122.319.
