- Summary of J. Rowlands, 'Drawings by German Artists and Artists from German-speaking regions of Europe in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum: the Fifteenth Century, and the Sixteenth Century by Artists born before 1530', London, BM Press, 1993,no. 73:
'This design for a glass-painting and a companion drawing, of ‘St Sebald’ (Washinton DC, National Gallery of Art,Lessing Rosenwald Collection), have a similar decorative surround of a branch with leaves or fruit and the two different arms of Nuremberg: a split shield with the city arms on this drawing, and the ‘Jungfrauenadler’ on the Washington sheet. St Lawrence and St Sebald are the two patron saints of Nuremberg, to whom the principal two churches of the city are dedicated. Beham later produced a woodcut book-plate for Hector Pömer (1495-1541) with a figure of St Lawrence based on this design (see Dodgson, i, p. 484, no. 159). Pömer, who came from a patrician family, was a priest from 1520 and provost of the church of St Lawrence in Nuremberg. There also exists a design by Beham for a quatrefoil window dated 1520 with a full-length figure of St Lawrence, with the border characteristically decorated with a vine-branch (Berlin, Kupferstichkabinett, KdZ. 53).'
