- This drawing relates to other studies for Dürer's engraving Adam and Eve of 1504 (Hollstein 1). It is particularly close to the 'Study for the figure of Eve' in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, in which the proportions of the figure were established. The figure is further completed here, with more work done particularly on the foreshortened arm and on the fall of light and shade. Other preparatory drawings for the figures in the engraving are in the Albertina Vienna, and the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York (Strauss 1504/11-12, 1504/17; see Washington 1971, nos. XI). The date 1507, which is certainly written in Dürer's hand, is a problem. It must have been added at a later stage and may have referred to another drawing on the right of the sheet, which was subsequently cut.
