- Summary of J.Rowlands, 'Drawings by German Artists in the British Museum, the XV and XVI centuries by artists born before 1530', London, 1993, no 201:
'J.M. Fritz pointed out that the studies on this sheet and on SL,5218.141 are designs for the engraved ornament on the feet of monstrances, not for the decoration of spoons as had been thought. Nor can they have been designs for chalices, an idea advanced by Röttinger, because unlike monstrances all the sections of the foot on chalices are not oblong but of equal size. The style of this drawing and Sl,,5218.141 is consistent with a date of c. 1515, after Dürer's younger brother Endres Dürer (1484-1555) had become a master goldsmith and with whom these and similar designs are usually associated.'
