The painting is at the Alte Pinakothek, Munich (524). It was formerly attributed to Giorgione by Ridolfi; whilst widely believed to be by Palma Vecchio, Mauro Luco argued for an attribution to Sebastiano del Piombo.
The sitter is thought to be a member of the Fugger family, possibly Anton Fugger (1493-1560).
