- See Popham, 'Catalogue of the Drawings of Parmigianino', Cambridge, 1971, No.246.
An engraving of an almost identical head by C. M. Metz, dated 1790, without the border and in reverse to Pp,2.147, is inscribed "in His Majesty's Collection" (Weigel 5540). It is not now at Windsor. The present drawing, though it belonged to the series of copies attributed to Lucas Vorsterman in the Payne Knight Collection, appears to be an original. Presumably the lost drawing in the Royal Collection was an old facsimile. For an analogous case, see Pp,2.132. The type and style point to Parmigianino's latest period.
