- Curator's comments
- Facsimile engraving in reverse by C.M. Metz ('Imitations of Ancient and Modern Drawings', London, 1789 and 1798) when in the Reynolds Collection (Weigel 5415; BM impression 1855,0609.933). Mary Vaccaro suggests that this might be by Bedoli rather than Parmigianino.
Lit.: A.E. Popham, 'Catalogue of the Drawings of Parmigianino', New Haven and London, 1971, I, no. 222, pl. 262; A. Gnann, 'Parmigianino, Die Zeichnung', Petersberg, 2007, no. 408 (where dated 1524-6)
The drawing seems to date from the Bolognese period or later.
