- Curator's comments
- O'Donoghue notes that the frontispiece was used as the frontispiece to Donne's 'Poems' of 1633, but David Alexander (personal correspondence, December 2008) reports that in fact it seems that it was not used until the 1651 edition of 'Letters to severall persons of honour' by Richard Marriott (Wing D1864), when it replaced the portrait by William Marshall which seems to have been used by John (and then Richard) Marriott from 1635 to 1650
