- Curator's comments
- This delicate landscape study places it emphasis on a central slender tree which is foregrouned by a shallow stretch of earth that opens onto a deep view enclosed by mountains. The shadowed figures at the base of the tree and the accompmaying livestock adds detail to the scene. Such a composition was used by Claude across his career, but the delicacy suggests a stage in Clsude’s maturity.
