Although the engraving is titled "Nicholas Bacon", a portrait resembling the sitter of this print is identified as Thomas Wilson, see the painting in the National Portrait Gallery, London, inv.no.3799, painted by an unknown artist in 1575. A painting by an unknown artist showing Nicholas Bacon (showing a different sitter from our plate) is also in the National Portrait Gallery, London, inv.no.164.
