- Acquisition notes
- The album in which the Pars drawings were mounted was initially placed in the Department of Prints and Drawings, where it was included in the 1837 inventory under the number Mm,13 - though the inventory has no listing of the individual drawings. At some point after the 1845 catalogue of topographical drawings in the BM had been printed, the entire intact album was transferred to the Department of Greek & Roman Antiquities, but in 1893 the topographical watercolours were extracted and passed back to P&D (leaving the archaeological drawings with G&R). The drawings in P&D were assigned by mistake the inventory number Mm,11, which actually belongs to an album of drawings by 'Theodore Kalmyk' that is now in G&R. It is now too late to correct this mistake as the Mm,11 numbers are constantly referred to in modern literature, and so they have been left as they stand. The sub-numbers correctly refer to the position that each drawing occupied in the album, the remains of which (all the drawings having been extracted and mounted) is still in G&R. (AVG 2019)
