Jacob instructing his household to bury their gods (Genesis 35:2/4), standing at centre before a pyramid and a broken pillar, looking at a young woman (Rachel?) holding a baby; a man at far right putting a statue in a hole, a woman kneeling at centre to unpack a basket, behind the pillar, two men discoursing and a woman riding a camel, holding two children; to left, sheep and an ox; coat of arms at bottom. - This plate was originally published in 1766 as part of John Boydell's 'Most Capital Paintings' series ('A Collection of Prints Engraved after the Most Capital Paintings in England', 1769-92). See Rubinstein p. 12, and see 2005,U.109 for comment on series. It was later included also in Boydell's 'Houghton Gallery', for a comment on which see Kk,4.1.
