Portrait of Ann Catley playing the character from Dibdin's opera; standing directed three-quarters and looking to right, a small bird on her right hand in front of her, which she shields with her raised left hand; wearing panniered dress with slashed skirt, divided peplum and ruffled neckline, necklace, drop earrings and hair worn high; a birdcage with open door hanging from a bough at left; ornamental frame festooned with garlands and at top a bow, quiver and padlock.
