- Curator's comments
- The pasteboard is mounted on another sheet of pasteboard, with an inked border in black and pink. For the print, etched in reverse direction, see K,57.24 (onto which this sheet is attached with a strip of material at the left edge) and K,57.25. See also K,57.26, another drawing in vellum of Mrs Abington in this role, also by Roberts.
Despite the inscribed date of 1778, the plate after it was published on 20th May 1776, the same date as the plate after the other drawing mentioned above (K,57.26). Burnim and Highfill, suggest that this drawing is therefore likely to be the later of the the two, perhaps copied from the first plate which is in this direction (Burnim + Highfill 81). However, see also K,57.13.
