Frontispiece from Bell's British Theatre; double portrait of the actors Spranger and Ann Barry as the characters from Nicholas Rowe's 'Tamerlane', both shown whole-length, he standing to left in wide-legged stance, head turned in profile and looking to right, short pointed beard and moustache, left arm outstretched, a dagger in his right hand and sword at left hip, wearing Eastern costume of sprigged banyan (?) tied with wide sash, fur-trimmed boots, ermine-lined cloak fastened at neck, and pointed headpiece decorated with crescent moon and plumes; she kneels in entreaty at right, head in profile to left, looking up to Bajazet, hands clasped, wearing long dress with decorated hem, tied at waist, short-sleeved, fur-trimmed cloak and necklace, hair dressed with pearls, scarf and plumes; worn impression. 1776

- Curator's comments
- Spranger Barry played the role of Bajazet in Dublin 1745-6, and in London, for the first time, in 1747. According to Burnim and Highfill, Ann Barry did not act in the role of Selima, despite being portrayed here, though her sister-in-law Jane Barry had often played it.
