Title
Object:
The 3 Damiens
Description
Satire on the alleged corruption of the Newcastle administration. In three compartments at the top of the sheet appear Lord Hardwicke as a vulture with sacks of money, Newcastle (or possibly Anson) as an ape with a fish's fin down its back holding a die and a playing card representing him as a gambler, and Henry Fox carrying a bag of money; verses below compare their threats to the state with that of Robert Damien who had attempted to assassinate Louis XV. 4 March 1757 Etching
