In his introduction to his chapter on the Theatre of Bacchus, Vol II, ch. 3, Stuart states that he intends to provide four plates: however Newton, who edited that volume, could only find and publish two of these. Woods, therefore, supplied three more, suggesting that the material never reached Mr Newton and adding that he was indebted to John Hawkins of Bignor Park, who allowed him to consult a drawing by the French architect Fauvel, which helped him clarify some of the measurements.
Woods adds his own observations about the structure, hypothesising that there might have been a closet for a prompter and an upper timber floor for the actors, with a space below it for stage machinery.
