Curator's comments
This print has been cut out from the upper l of a larger sheet with several other biblical scenes. This larger sheet was one of twelve printed from twenty-four blocks that were published together by Doen Pietersz. in Amsterdam as the 'Biblia Pauperum' sometime around 1525-1530. According to New Hollstein, the sheets are made up of woodcuts by Jacob Cornelisz. van Oostsanen and after Lucas van Leyden. The scenes are placed in ornamental frames with figures of prophets.
