- Curator's comments
- This drawing is suggested to be after a medal by Abraham Simon. There is some confusion over the identity of this artist, Binyon gives artists name as James Record and cites his exhibits at Society of Artists and Free Society, 1768-1780. Graves list these exhibits but gives the artists name as John Record. The original catalogue of the 1780 Society of Artists says 'J. Record', while the one for 1768 Free Society says 'Mr Record'. The inventory says 'J. Record' for Gg.1.492, and gives no artists name for Gg.1.497.
