The style and, to some extent, the format of this drawing match those of the last five drawings from the British Museum's Cortese album series, all of which had belonged to John Thane before entering Lawrence's possession (see 1946,0713.1110-1114). The present drawing and the five just mentioned have in common a slightly 'chocolate' brown wash and, compared with most of the rest of the drawings in the album (i.e. 1946,0713.1083-1107, an almost careless, squiggling line. Although of the same width, this drawing is somewhat taller than the five ex-Thane collection drawings, indicating perhaps that these latter have been cut down at the top and bottom. An explanation for the difference of style of these six drawings may be that they were drawn later in the artist's career. It is worth noting that some of the five ex-Thane collection drawings from the album (1946,0713.1110-1114) have been connected with the artist's etchings, but no such connection exists for Ff,2.186.
