- Curator's comments
- Dated by Mahoney on stylistic grounds to the first half of 1660s; a study for a painting in a private collection London (ex coll. Sir Francis Child), sold at Christie's, 30 March 1979, lot 20. The subject of the drawing was previously thought to be a 'Noli me tangere' (Christ's instruction to Mary Magdalen not to touch his resurrected body) , for the painting see J. Scott, 'Salvator Rosa, his life and times', New Haven, 1995, p. 223.
