- Curator's comments
- This print is no.14 in the catalogue of prints after Lombard by Denhaene. It does not feature in 'The Engravings of Giorgio Ghisi', exh. cat., New York, 1985, and its authorship is contested. However, the design bears some similarities to Ghisi's print, called the Mocking of the Prisoners, as well as to his Calumny of Apelles, after Luca Penni. As it was published by Cock, it seems very likely that if it is related to Ghisi, it dates to his time in Antwerp in the 1550s.
