David Alexander (email June 2021): This card soliciting a Christmas box for the letter carriers has nothing to do with the town of Bedford. 'Ward Room, Bedford' means that it was presented to the officers' mess of the 74 gun warship H.M.S. Bedford, launched in 1775, which must have been in Portsmouth at the time.
