A satire on fashionable amusements; a rustic couple ('Oyster Nan' and 'Bob Perry') dancing for an entranced audience in a barn, at left a paper lantern lettered 'The noted Bob Perry is here', boys watching from the rafters; a parody of Hogarth's 'Charmers of the age' (Paulson 1989, cat. no. 153), which is represented as tacked onto the barn wall at right; forgery purporting to be by or after Hogarth.

- See biographical note on Sympson for information on prints supposedly etched by him after Hogarth's design. Hogarth's 'Charmers of the age' can be dated to 1741-2, another problem for the supposed attribution to Sympson, as Sympson died in or around 1736.
