- Curator's comments
- Like many of Paul Cadmus's compositions, this etching pays homage to Italian Renaissance art. The interior setting, with its use of perspective, low ceiling and pillar-like row of lockers dividing the space, is reminiscent of the work of Piero della Francesca (c.1416-1492), while the twisting nude figure at the centre of the composition seems influenced by the work of Michelangelo (1475-1564). See, for example, 1887,0502.116.
